栗原亜也子/Ayako Kurihara

1999年愛知県立芸術大学美術学部油画科卒業

現在　神奈川県横浜市在住、制作

代表作「Mind Games(マインド・ゲームス)」シリーズは、ボードゲームのひとつである「オセロゲーム」のルールに則して、グリッドのマス目の中にスタンピングやドロッピングの手法で2つの色を交互に積み重ねていくことによって画面を構築していく作品である。同シリーズでは作家以外の誰かとの対戦という形式をとることもあれば、作家自身が二役をこなしながら一人遊びのようにゲーム／スタンピングを進行させていく場合もあり、「コミュニケーション」を取り巻く様々な視点を提示している。

他には絵画と実物モチーフをみ合わせた写真作品「Pictures(ピクチャーズ)」シリーズや、「Untitled(アンタイトルド）」などがある。「他者との関係性」や「領域と侵犯」、「リアルとバーチャル」などにおける「境界の揺らぎ」を意識した作品をペインティングや写真、彫刻、映像、インスタレーションなどの多様なメディアを使用して制作している。

近年では日本国外の規模の大きな屋外インスタレーションのプロジェクトに取り組むなど、活動を拡げている。

The “Mind Games” series, Kurihara's representative works, are based on the rules of a popular but simple board game called “Othello” or”Reversi” in which two different colors are alternately stacked in a grid of squares using stamping and dropping techniques to construct a screen. In some cases, the series takes the form of a game competition with someone other than the artist, while in other cases, the artist herself plays two roles and proceeds with the game/painting as if playing alone, presenting various perspectives on “communication”.

Other works include the ‘Pictures’ series of photographs, which combine paintings with real motifs, and ‘Untitled’. Kurihara creates works that are conscious of ‘fluctuating boundaries’ in terms of ‘relationships with others’, ‘territory and transgression’ and ‘real and virtual’, using a variety of media including painting, photography, sculpture, video and installation.

In recent years, the artist have expanded her activities to include large-scale outdoor installation projects both in Japan and abroad.
